Do I Need A Landline To Have An Alarm System 1

Can I still have an alarm system without a landline?  This is a question we get all the time.  And the short answer is – yes!  There are a few different ways alarm systems can communicate with central stations and we’ll explain them here.

Landline

If you have a traditional, analog telephone line at home, your alarm system certainly can use that to send signals to a central station.  However, if the line goes down or you are experiencing outages, signals will no longer send out.  This is why if there is phone line work done or you cancel your phone, it’s so important to let your alarm company know, so you don’t have your service interrupted.

Radio

A radio is another great option for central station monitoring.  In this case, the alarm signals are sent through the same towers used by your cell phone.  This is considered the “safest” means of communication – because there are no phone lines to cut and cell towers are very reliable.  Some alarm owners have their alarm system monitored with a landline and use a radio as a back-up method of communication.

Wifi

Wifi is a another good option for those of you that want an alarm system without a landline because it works through your internet connection.

Now that you know there are a few options for central stations to monitor your alarm system without a landline!
