Fall Activities

Updated October 1st, 2018

Although the recent heatwaves may have you thinking otherwise, Fall is finally upon us.  It’s time for pumpkin spice lattes, apple pies and (hopefully) enjoying some cooler weather in the Central Valley.  If you’re looking for a few fun, outdoor, family-friendly activities to do this season – look no further.  Here’s a list of our top five Fall activity picks:

1. Go Apple Picking

Apple Hill Ranch in Bishop, CA.  This one may be a bit of a drive, but if you are looking for a family friendly getaway, this is it!  This family owned, certified organic farm lets you pick your own fruit, such as apples (Fuji and Gala), plums and peaches.  They also have a wide variety of vegetables, honey, eggs, jellies and jams.

2. Visit a Corn Maze

RAM Farms corn maze in Turlock, CA.  RAM Farms has a 20 acre corn maze who’s path changes yearly!  In addition to the corn maze, they offer lots of other activities for the whole family such as a free pumpkin patch, hay maze, a spooky shed tour, little “tractors” for the kiddos to ride around on, and they even have a U-Pick Sunflower field.  Throughout the fall season, they also hold family friendly movie screenings under the stars, complete with popcorn, frozen yogurt, and hot chocolate.

3. Go for a Hay Ride

High Hill Ranch has so much to offer the whole family.  In addition to their fun tractor hay rides, they have daily craft fairs where you can walk around, watch crafters in action, and purchase a variety of handmade goods.   You can also go for a pony ride, go fishing, wine tasting, enjoy some amazing BBQ, and more!  This is a destination to add to your family’s Fall bucket list, for sure!

4. Enjoy Oktoberfest

Sacramento Oktoberfest is on October 12-13th.  Come enjoy authentic German beer on tap, wine, and German food while hanging out in at the outside biergarten and listening to live music.  There will also be German music and dancing along with kid friendly activities.

5. Go To The Big Fresno Fair

The Big Fresno Fair runs from October 3rd-14th.  Fresnans look forward to the return of the Big Fresno Fair each year for a variety of reasons.  From the carnival rides to the concerts and the different exhibits, the fair has a ton to offer.  If you have little ones, you cannot miss the Kids’ Town exhibit.  This exhibit changes each year, and this year it’s all about bugs.  Your kids won’t want to miss the giant animatronic bugs and the interactive butterfly, honeybee, and mosquito heads.  There are daily educational shows, crafts, and tasty treats that your kids will be sure to love.  Don’t miss this year’s exhibit!
